Calculating the current date and time in a worksheet cell
If you want to enter the current date and/or time into a cell so that it automatically stays current, use the NOW() or TODAY() formulas.
The NOW() function
To get the date and/or time, simply type =NOW() into a cell and press ENTER. That will enter the current date and time into that cell.
Then, right click the cell and choose Format Cells. Choose the Number tab, then choose the Date category (if you want to display just the current date) or theTime category (if you just want to display the current time). Pick a format that suits you, then click OK. Excel will display the current date and time in the format you chose. If you chose a Date format, Excel will not display the time (although the formula in the cell still calculates the time as well). The opposite is true if you choose a Time format.
The TODAY() function
If you only want to enter the current date into a cell and have it stay up to-date, type =TODAY() into a cell and press ENTE. This formula will calculate today's date and place it in the cell. As above, you can format the cell to change the way the date displays.
